The Role
I found that the 3 months went really quickly simply because I was really enjoying the internship.
My team were all really welcoming and supportive. I felt like I was a full member of the team and not just an intern
I was really busy for the whole duration of my internship, however, for me that was a good thing as it meant that I was developing more skills and that I was never ever sat twiddling my thumbs.
The amount of responsibility I was given really surprised me - I didn't expect to get so stuck in and to complete tasks independently that actually made a realdifference. I was given the full responsibility for my tasks - If I didn't complete them then no-one would, my project was 100% down to me. For example, I had to create promotional materials for which I was trusted to come up with a design and have it printed to a tight deadline. I was entirely responsible for my project.
The skills I have developed and the experience that I have had at Cancer Research UK has been invaluable. I have learnt a great deal on the job, learning through doing practical tasks. The experience will be perfect for talking about on job applications.
The Company
Cancer Research UK Head Office is a really lovely place to work. It is fairly laid back and people have a good work / fun balance.
The internship is organised extremely well. All the interns are provided with an in depth induction which gives an interesting overview of the charity and sets you up perfectly for the internship. The Volunteer Placement Executive ensured that everyone knew that they could go to her with any problems, big or small and she communicated effectively with us for the duration of the internship.

I was lucky enough to gain a full time, paid role with Cancer Research UK. You are in a great position to be able to check the vacancies page and network with the staff and teams that you may be interested in working with.
The Culture
The social scene is great. For me, the social side of the Internship was one of the best things about it. There are around 40-50 interns in each intake which means there are a lot of fellow interns to socialise with. I had lunch with the other interns most days and we also socialised after work on lots of occassions. It is really great to meet other like-minded people.
Islington varies for cost - there are some pricey places but also many which are good value. The cost of living and socialising in London in general is pricier than lots of other UK cities.
There are lots of pubs and bars in Islington which were always busy. The head office building it also right next to the tube station which makes it really easy to go further a field too.
There were lots of volunteering opportunities. On my internship I volunteered at the Young Art Exhibition and at the Capital Rocks concert. There were lots of other exciting things you could get involved in. For me, the opportunities outside of work were some of the highlights of my internship.
