The Role
The company had its ups and downs. The people and the role I managed to get in the end made it worth it.
There were two sides of this coin. The people I worked with were amazing once I had proved myself and shown that I was capable and willing. However I was treated like a secretary by some people regardless of the fact that I was studying computer science and that I wanted to learn something other than taking proper meeting minutes. Placement students were also ignored if you weren't part of the sponsored degree scheme you were left to rot and had to sort yourself out. Saying all of this once i had sorted myself out and gained the respect of people on my team I had a very good experience
I saw my graduate team leader 3 times. He failed to show up for both the meetings that I had arranged with my university tutor
I had a very good balance of work as they knew we were very junior they would give me enough to keep me occupied and busy but not too much so that i was stressed.
At the start there was very little responsibility but as time went by my managers were joking with me telling em i was the boss.
The skills I picked up were things you just could not learn at uni such as networking and understanding of how a constancy company actually works.
The Company
There was a really good atmosphere in the reading office but that was only because the current set of graduates and IPs were so nice and we all got on well. We made it the best experience for ourselves and i came away with some amazing friends. This was not due to the company as most people were being laid off it was only because the new intake of grads and IPs were good people.
It was a shambles. The person running the show has thankfully left now but we were left to our own devices with idiotic three day training that did nothing to prepare us for the rest of the year.
What investment? We were paid pretty poorly especially when compared to the sponsored degree students. There was no training I had to coerce senior staff to provide training for us as nothing was provided apart from soul crushing e learning with i completed over 30 hours of. If you're a placement student until you find a role prepare to be ignored.

I did get a job with the graduate practice but I have to seriously consider going back as a graduate, the only reason i enjoyed my placement was because of the people and the team i eventually ended up with the rest of it was a mess.
The Culture
Again this was because we made it into a good experience.
I worked in reading so it wasn't too bad.
The nightlife was decent
Not through the company, we created our own.
