The Role
It was great. I was given real responsibility and I learnt so much. Staff were so supportive and helpful and willing to answer my million-and-one questions.
I was really made to feel part of the team and my contributions were valued.
Weekly 1:1 sessions with my manager were great for getting and giving feedback. I set personal goals in my first week and throughout the internship my manager and I would go through what I had done that week in working towards these so when I left I had a great bank of examples for interviews.
My manager was very keen that I didn't become stressed so I had to let her know when I was running low on things to do but there was always something to add to my list but it never felt like I was being given work for the sake of keeping me busy, it was all important and necessary.
The level of responsibility I was given definitely increased over the internship, and that was great as I was more settled and prepared for bigger pieces of work when they were given to me.
I grew in confidence so much. My manager was excellent at supporting me when learning new things and also offering me opportunities to try something new or out of my comfort zone. I have come away with so many examples of skills that I have learnt or developed that will be so useful when applying for jobs in the future.
The Company
The office had a real buzz to it. It was a very positive place to work and it was obvious that everyone really wanted to be there and was working hard. There was a great atmosphere within my team and we had lots of fun, including a bake-off every Monday!
The orientation gave us a really solid foundation of knowledge for starting the internship and it was made very clear how many people there were available to support the interns.
I had a weekly 1:1 with my manager where we would go over my personal objectives and I could let her know if there was anything I wanted to get more experience in. Other members of staff also had time to answer any questions and offer help and advice.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
I would have loved to have got a job but any jobs going were very competitive so I didn't get any of the ones I applied for!
The Culture
Always interns to sit with a lunch, and lots of evenings out for drinks.
It was London-based so socialising was quite expensive but we went to the cheap places!
Lots of bars/pubs. I didn't go to any clubs
So many extra things to get involved in that were great opportunities it was hard to know when to say no!
