The Role
It was a great introduction to the charity sector and a large, well-run organisation.
My manager was really good at giving me feedback, and my team always passed on positive comments from other members of staff.
I had weekly 1:1s with my manager, where we ran through the week's tasks. The nature of the project I was working on meant that I needed to come up with my own initiatives, which was a useful learning experience.
The workload definitely varied day by day. When it was less heavy, I was able to get involved with intern activities.
I designed and implemented a communications plan to support a larger project, which was great experience.
The internship definitely allowed me to build up my skills and get experience in areas that I'll need in future roles.
The Company
Everyone is very friendly and, although I was in a quieter section of the office, people were still happy to chat about the weekend etc.
The internship was well organised. The recruitment process reassured me that the placement would be worthwhile.
As well as being given a personal development plan, we had a CV workshop and were given 1:1s with HR advisors.
Subsidised Canteen
As there are so many interns per scheme, the chances of everyone finding a job are unlikely - but the volunteering team were really good at highlighting any new roles that came up during our placement.
The Culture
As it's a large group, there were a lot of opportunities to go out together and most people were very social.
Islington is pretty expensive, but there are a lot of good pubs/restaurants.
There are some really good bars/clubs around Islington, most of which I've discovered through this internship.
As it's a charity, there are always lots of volunteering opportunities - from cheering at a race to serving celebrities at black-tie events.
