About You
It was enjoyable, and, at only a day in length, provided an excellent insight that fitted well with my work life.
Not applicable - we were not participating in any work.
The skills sessions (for example, the negotiation exercise) were led by current trainees, which I felt created a really helpful environment as I didn't feel like I was being assessed throughout the session. Instead, I could experiment slightly, and receive helpful feedback.
Whilst it was helpful, there was some overlap with other Open Days (for example, a very similar negotiation exercise and CV workshop at Clifford Chance.)
The Company
Very well structured - it left me both with a good insight into the firm, and a greater overall picture of the profession.
Very good atmosphere, with engaging people - the lunch with trainees, associates and partners was particularly fun.
However I feel this is not a priority in a day-long open day.
The day helped explain not only what the trainee role is, but, equally importantly, discussed work at a higher level.
It allowed me to get a good sense of the company's values. Whilst it would have been nice to hear more about some of the current cases partners were working on, I appreciated that information about these were provided in the handout.
I was already decided on my career path, however this was helpful in persuading meto apply to this firm!
Everything Else
Transport cost up to £100 were reimbursed.
The lunch with partners provided a good informal opportunity to network.
The lunch with partners provided a good informal opportunity to network. There were no social events as, at only a day long, there would not have been the time.
The trainee tour was helpful in identifying opportunities outside work.
It was very informative, and, at only a day long, it is a limited commitment if you are working.
