About You
Fantastic opportunity to gain an insight into the workings of a major city law firm.
Everybody I met - from trainees to partners - were extremely welcoming and friendly.
It was an extremely busy week (busier than normal!) but I still felt my supervisor and trainee took the time to explain everything we worked on
They will enable to me to make a much more informed decision when it comes to choosing seats on a training contract
The Company
Very well structured - a mix of time in the department with my supervisor and time spent doing exercises such as a negotiation competition and an introduction to contracts and drafting session.
Extremely good atmosphere - both my fellow vacation schemers and all those working at the firm were very personable and easy to work with
Associates and Partners took time out of their days to give us training sessions on topics such as negotiation and drafting
To me it was an irreplaceable experience - it gave me an insight into the firm that is impossible to gain from online reviews etc
Simmons & Simmons seems to be a place where they work extremely hard but where there is no face time culture, and an appreciation that people do have lives outside of the office.
I know I want to be a commercial lawyer but this has definitely given me food for thought as to which departments I would be best suited to and like to gain more experience in
Everything Else
£250
Speed networking with other departments (brief meetings with them to understand more about the work they do); brunch with partners; various events attended by trainees
I found them extremely useful - especially the speed networking. Without this I would have finished the week feeling that I had only gained experience in one department. As it was, I was given the opportunity to fire questions at members of a variety of different departments!
I understand there is a cricket team who goes on tour but found out little other than this
Smoothly run operation which offers highly beneficial insight into the work of a financially focussed City law firm with a strong reputation.
