About You
Extremely useful. An Open Day like this one might be a deal-breaker for some people when applying, but it really helped in getting to know what is the atmosphere in the office like and what are people doing on a daily basis.
Everybody was really friendly. I liked the fact that they were sharing both the upsides and the downsides that came with the job. Still, the benefits definitely outweigh the drawbacks.
There was always a trainee or HR officer with us at all times, so I believe there aren't any questions that remained unanswered.
I am not sure I developed any new skills, since it was just an Open Day, but the exercises that everybody had to go through were useful in letting us all have a sneak peek into the type of work a commercial lawyer does.
The Company
Everything was clearly structured from the beginning to the end.
I wouldn't say that Fun Never Stopped, but I definitely had a great time and didn't feel bored. If you have experience with applications and have done some research before applying, you might find some of the workshops or presentations full of familiar info, but, after all, these Open Days are to make sure that everybody walks away with a good knowledge of the firm.
It was useful in terms of looking around the offices and talking to some people while they are on the job. All trainees and associates were pretty upfront about what they were working on and shared a few personal stories, mostly to debunk the extremely long hours lawyers put in work that we've all heard about.
I have made my decision long before applying for the Open Day, but the event could definitely help somebody who is still having their doubts about becoming a lawyer.
Everything Else
It was an Open Day and I live in London, so this isn't really applicable to me. Others who traveled from other cities were reimbursed for their travel expenses.
The whole event is one big networking opportunity. There are different trainees, associates and HR officers coming in and out throughout the day, so you can meet plenty of people working at the firm for a very short period of time.
Top notch.
Definitely try to an attend an Open Day before jumping into a vacation scheme or training contract!
