The Role
Really enjoyed my year. The work was demanding and interesting within a very friendly department.
I wasn't treated like an intern - my opinion was valued.
I had weekly meetings to discuss progress and any issues I had. I was also offered plenty of help and advice for university projects.
Very busy at month end, this quietened down toward the end of the month.
I was responsible for several pieces of month end reporting. I also redeveloped the way some of these processes operated.
Developed my Excel and Access (etc.) skills significantly.
The Company
Friendly, comfortable but hard working.
I was the first placement student in the department so at first it took a while for them to work out exactly what I could do. I was able to improve the introduction process for my replacement.
I had a driver safety course and also several web based training sessions. There was also the option to go on courses if I wanted.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Car
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I would be very willing to work at VW again.
The Culture
There was a big group of undergraduates so there were plenty of opportunities to socialise.
Going out wasn't terribly cheap compared to Birmingham, however, cheaper than London. Living with other undergrads made it very affordable.
There were a few nightclubs, pubs and restaurants but nothing compared to a city.
There were a few activities organised throughout the year such as a treasure hunt (that ended in the pub!), team building days and Christmas parties.
