The Role
For the first 7 months of my placement I was based at Care Services (the provider arm) and was very bored and under utilised. I was moved across to the Primary Care Trust (commissioning) for Year End Accounts and I have enjoyed the work and the team so much that I chose to finish my placement there. Therefore my review is based on my placement at the Primary Care Trust.
I settled in very well and felt part of the team.
Management were always available to answer any questions I had and were always willing to help.
During Year End Accounts the workload was a lot but now it is much more manageable.
To start with I was given small amounts of responsibility but as time went on I was given more responsibilites.
Skills such as time management and communication will certainly be useful for my final year as well as for my future career. Skills gained from the work will also be very beneficial for a career in accountancy.
The Company
There was never a dull moment in the office and the work felt enjoyable because of it.
My placement was gained from a speculative application so there wasn't an organised timetable for the placement.
I was sent on a few training days and the management would invest their time in my development as well.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Above 25 days holiday
Future employment with the NHS isn't safe or secure due to the "White Paper" announcement from the government but my line manager would be willing to give me a reference.
The Culture
My colleagues were sociable
Cost of living was average.
The nightlife in Cheltenham is quite good.
Global emails were regularly sent regarding various activities outside of work.
