The Role
From the beginning of my placement with Aldi I throughly enjoyed the experience. There was many interesting aspects of the placement including managing large teams and running a large and busy store.
The staff within the store always made me feel welcome and always gave me the opportunity to try different things. My store manager was particularly welcoming and always tried to accomadate me.
My store manager was always available if I had a problem and would assist me in anyway possible.
There is always plenty to do when in store with many different tasks needing to be completed as soon as possible. There was never a moment when nothing had to be done or when I was bored.
Throughout the duration of the placement you are given very large amounts of responsability. As you go straight into an assistant manager position you are instantly valued. I had the opportunity to manage a team of 20 people which shows the level of trust that the company has in you.
The skills which I have learned during this placement will be greatly beneficial to me in the long term. This placement has thought me the importance of organsation and time management which will hugely benefit me in the long run.
The Company
The atmosphere within store is very balanced. When the work has to be done everyone is very serious and works hard together. There is also times when people can have fun however getting the job done is always the most important thing.
The training plan given to you at the start of the placement clearly sets out what you will be doing. The training plan states who your different line managers for the placement will be and what department you will be working within.
There is regular training when you are in store and during the time at head office I recieved training within the various departments.
Above 25 days holiday
The placement is effectively a year long interview for the graduate position and your performance during the placement will determine your chances of working for the company after your graduation.
The Culture
Although there was other placement students the hours you work during your store time mean that you have little time to socialise
The cost of living was completley fine due to the large salary which you are paid for the placement.
The night life in my area is excellent however there is little time to socialise as you will be working long hours and basically every weekend.
There was very little socialising outside of work. There was no opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work.
