The Role
The placement was fast paced and I was able to learn by doing, which for me is the most affective way to progress, the placement also gives you a lot of responsibility when compared to others.
I was treated like any other employee at Aldi, while in store placement students hold the position of Assistant Store Manager, meaning that in the absence of the Store Manager you are left in charge. In H/O the staff are just as nice as anywhere else and make sure that you are equipped to complete any task at hand.
At the start of the placement you are assigned an Area Manager who acts as a mentor for the most part of the placement and it will be in one of the stores in their area that you will complete your store time. Feedback is always given along the way from the Store Manager, Area Manager and other relevant Bodies. I always new what was expected of me.
There is no hiding that an Aldi placement is a hard placement, and although they pay £25k they pay this because they expect hard work in return (they pay well, you work very well) so to answer the question, you are always busy on a daily basis but good organisation is the key.
I was expected to be running the store after training, therefore in the absence of the Manager a store's perfromance and the performance of the staff inside was my reponsibility.
Aldi is all about good practice, when it comes to skills this is the place to learn them, Aldi pride themselves on being supper efficient and therefore teach the most effective way of completing tasks and doing completing them well first time.
The Company
As stated previous, Fast Paced and plenty to get on with all the time.
Very structured giving the best opportunity to make the most of the placement and learn how Aldi work, as well as being able to plan your year well as a full timetable is provided.
Aldi takes the time to encourage all placement students to do well and ensure that they receive the best training available, Aldi are happy to invest further in those who apply themselves 100% and offer opportunity for further employment to the right kind of candidate.
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I would be very interested in further employment with Aldi having neared the end of the placement it has become clear to me that I would enjoy and get a lot of satisfaction from a career at Aldi.
The Culture
Everyone got Along well and we were able to keep good contact with each other to find out how things where .
This did not effect me as I did not need to move from my current location
As above
There were several staff nights out which where a good opportunity to get to know the staff out of a work capacity.
