About You
The spring week was very helpful for undergrads who are new to the industry and have only a limited financial background. There were two days of technical training and overviews, two days of work shadowing and finally an assessment centre and CSR activity.
The company clearly spent a lot of resources on us and the grads we were assigned to during work shadowing were extremely helpful.
The grads we shadowed were extremely helpful and open to questions, and the environment was very friendly in general.
The information given was very helpful in helping me decide on whether or not RBS and the finance industry in general was suitable for me, and I also gained a lot of insight into the different divisions.
The Company
There was clearly an agenda to follow for each day which was laid out for us on the first day, and the company generally kept to the schedule.
The training simulations were fun and the work shadowing was enjoyable in general.
The company spent a lot of resources on us and we were given a lot of training.
We talked to a lot of people and asked them about what they do on a daily basis, the activities they are involved in, and the challenges etc.
The culture was very open and the structure was relatively flat, where everyone was able to interact with one another regardless of their seniority.
It was very helpful in showing me what each division does and the day-to-day tasks.
Everything Else
As I lived within M25, I was not given any reimbursement.
We had a lot of time to mingle around and talk to the other interns, and we met a number of grads as well. There were not many opportunities to network with more senior employees though.
The time allocated for the networking events was generally alright, and we had some social events too.
Most RBS employees actually do a lot of things outside of work, especially CSR. Most of them are involved in at least one other activity.
I've learnt a lot from this insight, and would definitely recommend it for people who are not sure what IB is all about.
