About You
This was my first work experience placement and it enabled me to see how a science degree can lead to a career in Applied Sciences. It allowed see all of the different stages testing in the laboratory.
I felt very included as everybody was very friendly and facilitated my participation in experiments. At lunch times everyone that I had been working with that morning welcomed me to sit with them in the canteen.
In there was a structured program and I had one to one supervision throughout my placement. Throughout the week my supervisors seemed genuinely interested in showing me round.
I am usually in school so going to work for a whole week was something completely different for me. I can really see how the chemistry can be applied to the development of oils.
The Company
At the start of the week I was given a coloured timetable that told me: where I would be, what I would be doing, and who would be supervising me. Some of the people I was working with even got me my own 'test sample' set up so that I could follow the process all of the way through.
There was always a new test to run or some more results to collect, all of it nothing like I had ever seen before. I was never too busy as doing you have to watch over most tests to regularly monitor them.
Considering that I am a 14 year old work experience placement for only 1 week. I think that the company made every effort to give me an interesting and productive week.
The variety of research of that is carried out on the site makes me think that it would be a very stimulating place to work. I realise that there are opportunities to do a placement as a university student.
The company clearly values students of a variety of ages and is keen to promote an interest in science. The people are very friendly, the placement was well organised and I am unable to comment any further as I only spent one week there.
I feel the this is an extremely viable option for my future career as I thoroughly enjoyed everything that I did there and can see myself in a similar job in the future. I just need to do well in my exams.
Everything Else
Although I was not paid, the company supplied me with samples of oil to test with that will not make them any money in the future. Also time was spent showing me around the site when the employees could have been working.

I know of friends that went to placements elsewhere that disappointed them, however this placement exceeded my expectations in every way. I would definitely recommend it to everyone that asks.
