About You
I found my insight weeks very interesting, each day I observed and examined different things. I was able to get a good insight of 4 main departments of my interests, which included Operations, HR, Marketing and Management. It was very interesting to see how ASDA operated to increase sales.
I felt very valued at my time at ASDA, they explained and performed different activities daily. They were treating me like one of them an employee, which made me feel much for comfortable around the environment i was working in.
The staff made me feel very valued from day one, since I entered the store and started to do daily tasks, when I did struggle to complete a task I felt very valued that I could ask an employee who was always willing to help.
I was able to develop and expand my current knowledge and skills and also leave with vital new skills and knowledge. It gave me a good understanding of how the business operates.
The Company
Very well structured from day one I was told which departments I will be working with and what times i am expected to start and finish. Each day I was meeting new employees.
The overall atmosphere was ok, but did get dull at times, but that's work! They did however try and make every day interesting whilst i was there.
They invest a lot of time and effort into to making sure that the insight weeks were interesting and also helpful. I was given personal training in the filed i was working in whilst i was their, i was also being supervised by a staff member in that particular department which i found very helpful, as i could ask them for help when needed.
The insight helped me gain a better understanding of what it would be like to have a full time job in that particular role at asked, It allowed me to see what i would be doing daily if i decide to work at ASDA or any other firms with similar roles.
It helped me quite a lot as i understood its culture and goals in life. I already had some background knowledge but this allowed me to expand my current knowledge on the firm. It was a real eye opener to understand how it all worked.
It was very valuable as it allowed me to understand if the career path was the right one for me. After working their for a few days i quickly examined and understood what to do thanks to my current knowledge, this allowed me to understand that i would like to work in the field.
Everything Else
I was not paid but reimbursed for travel.
There was no opportunities for me to network and meet other employees in the company only the employees i was working with this could have been because it was only an insight week but their could be other reasons as well overall it didn't put me off in any way.
Their were no networking or social event opportunities whilst i was their again this could be because i was only their for a short period time, maybe if i did and inter or placement, i could have benefited from different events whilst i was working for ASDA.
Unfortunately no this is mainly because i never asked an employee about what they do outside work or how the firm helps employees to do activities outside of work. I think if i asked a staff member they would have told me what kind of activities they do outside of work.
Yes i would recommend this insight to a friend, i worked mostly in the business side of the firm, but i do understand their are plenty of different areas in the firms so i think its a great opportunities or most people doing degrees related to businesses.
