    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • On the whole really enjoyed it, but at times the work was tedious.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Depended on the team, some were very welcoming and friendly, others less so.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Help was always easy to find, although more accountancy training and general training should have been provided at the start.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some times were very busy (busy season), but for the most part there was a good balance.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Again, depended on the client and for how long I was in the team, understandably, but there were times, especially towards the end of my placement when I was more experienced that I felt I had a great deal of responsibility.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained all kinds of skills from this placement, from inter-personal and communication skills, to technical skills on excel and eAudit. I feel that I learned a lot during my time here, and developed as a person.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Depended on the team, some were really fun, but in general the atmosphere was never that great.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised, I was almost always assigned to a client, and knew where I would by and who I'd be working for in advance.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think the main area that the placement was lacking was in official training, and while one may argue that experience gained on the job is the best training, and that team members were available to help with any issues, a combination would have been better. I think real accountancy training should be given throughout the placement as well as industry-specific training, eg. banking, funds or insurance.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I did enjoy working for KPMG, and believe they are a firm that supports their employees, but I'm not completely sure whether I would work for them again, not because I don't like the company, but because I'm unsure as to whether I want to go into accountancy. If I decide I do, KPMG would probably at the top of my list for prospective employers.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Good scene with fellow students, made very good friends with them, and once I got to know some of the permanent colleagues I enjoyed some of the organised parties as well as pub of the weeks.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Really good.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not really anything I was interested in.

    3/5
