The Role
The placement was really well-organised and structured. I was assigned a particular practice group, but there were also presentations on other practice groups. These were really entertaining and informative. It was clear that the lawyers who gave them had taken time out of their busy schedules to plan a presentation that they thought would be helpful to us.
Everyone was really welcoming and keen to give me work that would be useful. They refused to give me photocopying! They told me that they didn't want to give me work in which I wouldn't learn anything.
My supervisors took out time to explain stuff carefully to me. For one piece of research I did, a senior lawyer spent at least an hour going through it with me.
I was encouraged to be proactive and get my own work, so I could be as busy as I wanted. This was a good system- it gave me more responsibility, which was great, as I could plan and time things as I wanted.
My work was checked and reviewed and it was great to see that some of my work was used by the firm. I even got to met clients.
The methods of research I was taught will be useful for life. As will the skills I gained of how to act in a commercial setting.
The Company
People were really laid back and there were some pretty good jokes flying around. Everyone was nice and kept checking up on how I was.
Really well organised. I've been on others which just don't compare.
We were given lots of handouts and agan, people spent a lot of time explaining stuff to me.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I would love to work for them but competition for a firm like it are pretty tough.
The Culture
We went paintballing, which was definitely different. Had lots of drinks evenings too.
All our social events were paid for!
Didn't check it out much, as not really my thing.
We had lots of invites to sport events and after work pub visits.
