About You
Was really informative! My favourite part was the presentations by the graduate engineers and chemists. It showed how varied work can be in BP.
They were all friendly on the tours and what were informative in what they showed us, which I am unable to mention due to the confidentiality statement you have to sign at the start of the day.
As this was a discovery day it was more insight focused, any queries i had about the company and working there i felt were answered honestly.
It allowed me to be around engineers of different disciplines as well as chemists.
The Company
Very well structured, we were given a programme of what would be happening throughout the day and it was well stuck to!
Really positive, the graduates were open to talk about their experiences in BP, thoughts about living in Hull and the transition from University to career. BP really demonstrated the work environment staff work in and how much can vary depending on what the job role is. Discovery days are something i hope other companies are inspired to do and i would reccommend this to people looking for career options in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
This was a discovery day, so in terms of training investment, we were given a safety demonstration of the prohibited items within the plant, as well as areas in
They had a 'day in the life' approach to what graduates did full time. They were explained, how the hours worked in certain job roles can change and how flexible they are.
Was very helpful, they showed us around facilities in which the staff were working, so we were able to see how they communicate with each other.
It has definitely made me consider working in Petrochemicals, i will be applying for a placement at the end of the year!
Everything Else
As well as paying for my train ticket there and back, they gave discovery day participants an expenses form to reimburse taxi fares, they also gave us BP hoodies at the end!
It was a range of employees from the company, from senior engineers and chemists to people just starting out in the company
We were given an hour in lunch to network with staff, so although it was beneficial, it would have been useful to have a little more time to talk to everyone rather than just one or two people.
They spent quite a lot of time detailing the city of Hull and what people get up to outside of work
Anyone unsure about BP, or the oil/gas industry on a whole i will definitely recommend, really good day out, really interesting, i had fun!
