About You
I very much enjoyed learning more about the firm's industry groups and culture through a number of seminars and conversations with trainees, qualified lawyers and HR.
I felt as though the firm made a special effort to accomodate me and the other vacation scheme students into the life of the firm.
I received a lot of guidance and support from across the board - the trainees, associates, partners and HR personnel, who were always keen to ensure that I got the most out of the vacation scheme.
The presentation that I was required to give in a group of four in front of two partners and two people from HR was invaluable in developing my teamworking and public speaking skills
The Company
The vacation scheme was extremely well structured. We had a good series of induction meetings, a seminar on the application process and a number of events to enable us to familiarise ourselves with the firm and its culture.
The firm has a relaxed atmosphere: people work hard, but not in a frenzy. They are cordial to one another - from the secretaries through the associates up to the partners.
HR was always available to answer my personal queries and the lawyers with whom I sat regularly came over to check how I was getting on.
I gained a good picture of how the firm operates on a day-to-day basis and how I would fit in if I worked there full time.
It helped me enormously because reading the website will only help so much; the events that were held during my time at the firm enabled me to talk first hand with trainees, associates and partners about the culture.
It convinced me that I had chosen the right career path.
Everything Else
I was paid enough to make it worth my while.
There were dinners and lots and lots of drinks!
They were extensive and very enjoyable. I had a number of opportunities to talk to everyone from around the firm.
The firm has an exceedingly good choir, is heavily involved in CSR (charity bake sales, bike rides and the like) and has a number of teams.
Yes - it asks the questions that enable you to make an informed decision.
