About You
Really good week.
Barclays are obvious really keen to convert a singnificant portion of spring interns to summer interns
Always knew what was going on and what was expected of me
We gained so much information over the course of the week, which will be really useful in informing later decisions about where in the bank I should apply to.
The Company
Really well done. I was very impressed with the HR department who ran the week.
Generally high energy levels throughout (which was really impressive since the days were quite long and nobody got much sleep). A very small fraction of the total number of sessions were dull.
The sessions were almost always run by fairly senior members of staff or (really good) external agents. Networking opportunities were also made possible.
We had lots of exposure to graduates from different divisions who talked through what a typical day looked like for them.
The new Barclays values were pushed really hard by almost everyone we met.
I now know where I want to apply and where I definitely don't want to go.
Everything Else
Accommodation provided and travel expenses refunded. £250 also given to cover extra expenses (day travel, buying suits etc)
One networking session with Barclays employees on top floor of Barclays tower. Lots of speed networking sessions with every division of the bank.
There weren't any social events outside the office, but the majroity of us were provided accommodation at the same venue so this didn't matter.
A bit of CSR, and a bit of industry networking but generally no. Some departments go skiing together Bankers work long hours.
Yep, even if you don't think banking is for you. A week's insight teaches you loads and is a lot less of a commitment than a summer internship.
