About You
This is a perfect introduction into investment banking and other areas at Barclays, plus a great opportunity to meet new people.
Barclays' employees are mostly very friendly but HR did not try hard to get to know the interns.
All questions were answered truthfully and helpfully if it was not confidential.
I gained very helpful presentation skills as well as information on the industry.
The Company
It covered a wide range of business areas but some coverage was rushed. The networking evenings could have been improved if there was an informal dinner with business representatives.
Everyone was quite cheerful and lively even though some had already done spring weeks during the week before.
They had some great speakers who gave beneficial advice on career and life as well. They did not spare any cost in doing so.
There is some work shadowing but more can be helpful. All the business reps answered questions about their daily routine though.
They always emphasise their values and culture and perhaps this is area where you gain the deepest insight.
I was set on Research and this programme made me even more certain about what I wanted to do. However, a lot of people were still confused, perhaps because the negatives about each role was not highlighted.
Everything Else
They paid for my travel to London, provided accommodation as well as an additional £250 for expenses. However, you had to leave the accommodation on the last day so you had to take your luggage with you.
There were many opportunities to meet new people but you could not go on your own to find people in the area you like.
They were good in general but there was only one social event with business reps and it was short.
They talked a little bit about volunteering but I suppose you don't have a lot of time to do things outside of work.
Whether or not you know what you want to do, this is a great insight into all the different business areas and it will give you valuable skills in presentation and general attitude.
