The Role
Really enjoyed the job, but it was my first experience of working in an office so I have nothing to compare it to.
I felt valued in the work place by my colleagues but I didn't feel we were particularly close.
Everyone in my team was very busy, so when they had time they were very supportive, but this didn't happen regularly.
Too busy rather than bored.
I was given a high level of responsibility from my first day.
A lot of the skills I have learned are specific to merchandising or L'Oreal, but the general experience of working in an office is invaluable.
The Company
The office was never dull, but the atmosphere was often quite tense when people were stressed, which I didn't like.
L'Oreal obviously have a lot of experience with interns so in that respect it was very good. The only thing was the 4 day handover I had was very rushed and I felt like that could have been handled or planned a lot better.
I got to visit agencies, and went to Google training which I thought was really valuable. I also attended meetings that helped my development. I felt like the company were putting effort into my personal development.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I would love to work for them again, but unfortunately I didn't voice this confidently and loudly enough to my line manager so she was unaware and didn't recommend me for the grad scheme.
The Culture
There is 50 interns at L'Oreal, so there's always some kind of social event going on, and we had Bar 255 every month which was a lot of fun.
It was very expensive, but it was something that I budgetted for.
There was not much nightlife in Hammersmith, but it's very easy to get into central London where the nightlife is amazing.
There was the occasional sports team that I didn't get involved in. I don't think there was anything else.
