The Role
It was the perfect balance between challenging, manageable, hardwork and enjoyable.
I was immediately taken in by my team and included in team events and meetings
I was assigned a `buddy` and if I had any problems or queries we would sit down and go through it.
Each day was never boring or too stressful, so the time just flew by!
Having settled down in my team I was given a few projects which I had the sole responsibility of progressing from start to finish.
The skills that I learnt are vital as I enjoyed the placement so much that I am going back to work full-time in September 2014!
The Company
The atmosphere was great, obviously everyone had a job to do... but we still managed to have a laugh and a chat several times a day.
The HR team at Barcap are fantastic and despite being off-cycle interns we were well looked after.
Obviously it is difficult to train and invest an intern who is only on a team for 6 months, however we were given access to a fantastic online learning and development site which had numerous tests/ quizzes and trainings to be chosen from.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I enjoyed my time at BarCap so much that I immediately knew I wanted to go back to work there once I had graduated.
The Culture
I met up with the 5 other interns every thursday lunchtime for a chilli con carne and a catch up. We also went out for drinks on several occassions.
The biggest problem with London is costs! Even though the graduate/ intern salary is well above the national average... it is still hard to save much by the end of it
Once a month we had a team meeting followed by drinks, however we did meet up on a few other occasions.
There were a few opportunities to join sport teams or other clubs, which another intern took up.
