The Role
Fun and challenging.
I felt that my colleagues valued me at least as well as I valued myself.
All the suport I needed.
There was always a queue of tasks for me, but I was never given explicit deadlines. I felt perfectly abler to say if a task was to take longer than expected.
As would be expected in software - I was given meaningful and necessary tasks, but not critical ones.
100% relevant.
The Company
Pleasant, fairly relaxed but professional.
Some issues with IT infrastructure but mainly very well.
They were very willing to expend employee time on teaching me, and there was no problem with me taking long stretches of time to read/train myself.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I was offered an extension to my placement. I guess that's a good sign.
The Culture
I didn't meet other placement students. I got on very well with colleagues but this was almost all at work.
Extremely expensive (Cambridge).
Excellent pubs and college bars. Nightclubs not so good, although better than you might expect for a small town.
All sorts going on in Cambridge!
