The Role
I was given the opportunity to expereince the work of a solicitor on a day to day basis. The highlight was listening in to a conference call concerning the sale of a major business.
I was treated very well, everyone was really friendly and made an effort to check that I had settled in and was happy.
I was set tasks by partners who took the opportunity to get to know me better and I was able to speak to them at any point when I had a query.
I was given a manageable work load.
I was only on my placement for a week, but I did get the opportunity to draft letters to clients.
I participated in commercial and negotiation exercises and found the skills I learnt from these tasks beneficial.
The Company
People were really friendly and were interested in the work they were involved in.
Presentations were given by current trainees and there were also two socials - a pool tournament and drinks at the end of the week. Exercises were also organised by BPP and the College of Law for us tp take part in.
Members of the firm spend time with me explaining the various areas of the business, but as I was only there for a week there wasn't a great deal of personal training.
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing, I really enjoyed the placement and get along well with the team I was in.
The Culture
A pool tournament was organised where vac schemers were paired up with current trainees and this allowed me to speak to the trainees informally and to get to know the firm better.
The firm paid for the social events and also paid us for the week, so it worked out quite well.
Leeds is a really vibrant city and there is always something going on.
Met up with the trainees at lunchtime to chat to them, there was also a pool tournament during the week and a drinks social at the end of the week.
