About You
Mainly a chance to talk to people within the industry, as well as get a feel for the general atmosphere.
Many people from the industry took time out of their busy schedules in order to give us a deep seated insight into why they do what they do.
I think that not being given support was not necessarily a bad thing. It gave us room to find out things for ourselves.
Especially for matters such as an investment bank, the only true way to understand the field is by doing weeks like a spring week. You are exposed to people within every department so its very easy to understand what you want to do at the end.
The Company
The week went perfectly, but the tour around the building was a little rushed I feel.
People were great, and from all different parts of the world. People were especially jolly at the leaving dinner.
As previously mentioned, the company puts a lot of time into getting people from the industry to talk to you.
There was work shadowing within the department that you wanted to move into which was great!
Again, being able to talk to bankers within a calm and constructive atmosphere, you really got an understanding of why they do what they do.
Having always known that a career in finance was the direction for me, this week gave more insight into the specific area that I want to move into.
Everything Else
Travel is reimbursed.
Everyday at every breakfast/lunch/dinner.
The dinner on the last day was probably the best opportunity.
There was a session on the "networks" within the firm. From philanthropic societies to general sports.
IF you want to find out what the industry is like, this week and this firm is the place to do it.
