About You
The work shadowing and the 2-day coding challenge were very enjoyable.
It was just a spring insight, so there was nothing of value I could really do. But it was clear from the start that J.P. Morgan was very interested in investing in us as both interns and during a potential graduate scheme.
Through presentations, and work shadowing I gained so much information about J.P. Morgan as a company, about the technology division within J.P. Morgan, and generally what it would be like to work there.
The coding challenge in particular was very intense in terms of skill development. I learnt a lot about Java, and object oriented programming in general, which I feel I can apply to my degree in Electrical Engineering
The Company
On two of the days there were presentations for basically the whole day. The information given was all useful and interesting, but it would have been nice perhaps to have had the presentations more spaced throughout the week.
Everyone on the insight was friendly, and the social events in the evening were fun.
It was only a week insight program, so there was only so much personal training which could be accomplished. I would say the majority of the time was spent learning about the company.
There was an afternoon of work shadowing and a two day coding challenge which gave us a brief insight into the company. But it would have been nice if there had been more work shadowing.
The networking events and presentations allowed me to get to know quite a few of the long term employees. This was probably the biggest factor in allowing me understand the company culture at J.P. Morgan technology.
The whole week did help me to decide on where I want to apply for an internship in the following summer.
Everything Else
I was not paid, and I lived in London so my travel costs were minimal - I didn't really require and reimbursement.
Apart from the work shadowing there was a networking lunch where we could meet other employees.
There were two social events in the evening and a networking lunch on the final day.
Not really
Yes, especially if they were unsure about working in technology at a bank, as it really did clarify a lot of things for me.
