About You
It was a very interesting visit lasting 3 days. We got to find out about business overviews, do some work shadowing, and also do some example activities of what a group task would involve. The time I spent in the company was very enjoyable, and definately showed me a lot about the sort of company I would be working with.
I felt extremely welcomed in the company, all staff on the premises I talked to were friendly and had a smile for me, even when I got lost. All my needs were catered for and there was always people around you could ask anything.
There was constant support, with people always offering their help, and supplying email addresses in case a question struck you afterwards. All activities were well thought out also.
I learned a lot about the baning and technology sector which I will be able to use in aspect of my Maths and Computer Science degree. There were definitely skills for my future as well, such as learning about the Agile method of project management. The information also gave me a very good image of the business sector, at least at JP Morgan, to allow me to make an informed career choice in the future.
The Company
It was extremely well structured, with travel booked well in advance to arrive the night before, hotel throughout, and coaches every morning and evening to take us to and from the company. The activities were well planned out and all the staff involved knew exactly what was happening and when. We could possibly have had more information on scheduling before hand, but this is my only complaint.
I loved the atmosphere in the company, I felt so welcome throughout and there was always someone ready to talk to me if I wanted to know something! All the the talks were relevant and interesting, and they always left time for lots of questions at the end.
We learnt about some of the systems in place within the company, such as project management, and about the hierarchy. The work shadowing allowed me to learn more about a certain section, such as fixed income. The assessment centre and interview overview we did will also be very useful in the future.
I have a very clear idea what working at JP Morgan would entail, although maybe not about particular roles, however there were a very large amount!
I learnt a lot about how the company works and how much training and value they put into staff, both inside and out of work. The culture was very clear as soon as I stepped through the door, and I loved it.
Everything Else
Everything was paid for in advance, via booking with an external travel company, and the company paying directly for my hotel costs. I did not have to spend anything while I was there.
Yes, we had a networking event on the second evening where we went to a bar for drinks and employees of the company joined us. We were free to talk to them and mill around. We were also able to talk to graduates when they took us for tours, and during events they helped run, as well as the people we shadowed.
We had one social event which was very well organised and allowed for a lot of networking. We were also in a hotel of fellow attendants, so could meet these people and network with them throughout the three days.
There was a lot of information for the volunteering and societies the employees can join, and there was a definite emphasis in the company of getting involved.
Yes! I learnt so much and really enjoyed my time in the company, and I am now hoping to get an Industrial Placement there next year.
