About You
The internship was very enjoyable and interactive. I learned a lot and felt like I was part the team.
I really felt like part of the team. The members of my department were very friendly towards me and were happy to find work for me to do which was often important.
Support my mentor was great and I felt comfortable to ask questions/for help at all times.
My degree is in Accounting and Finance and so the skills that I developed and information that I received was very relevant and useful.
The Company
The induction day wasn't extremely well structured; it contained a few icebreakers to allow us to get to know the other interns however it didn't instruct us as to what we would be doing over the two weeks. The rest of the internship was very well structured and provided a real working experience rather than just sitting in on endless presentations.
The team that I was working in was very friendly and involved me in what they were doing. In the two weeks, we went out for lunch twice which was highly enjoyable.
As the internship was only two weeks long, there was not much point in KPMG providing us with training; I feel that the work itself was more beneficial in development than any training could have been anyway.
We weren't treated like interns but rather as employees. Following the induction, we were put straight into teams and given actual client work to do. We worked from 9:30am until 5:30pm (sometimes longer) which is the same hours as the full time employees so we experienced how that feels too.
On the induction day, we were told about the aims of KPMG and were shown a video about life at KPMG. For the rest of the internship, we worked in an actual team so we could experience the culture for ourselves.
The placement gave me a good insight into how working in audit would be. I definitely see this as a possible career choice.
Everything Else
I was paid for the two weeks and was able to reimburse expenses for lunch (£4 a day)
Yes, I was introduced to a number of employees during the placement and had many opportunities to talk with them and ask them questions throughout the day.
As the placement was short, there were not really many opportinities for me to experience the social side of the firm outside of my team.
During my two weeks as a First Year Intern, I wasn't informed about activities outside of work however i'm sure that there will be many.
Yes definitely, it was an invaluable experience!
