About You
The two weeks were well structured yet relaxed, so that I knew which department I was involved with and the people to talk to, yet nothing felt too staged. I was given pieces of work but, due to the nature of legal work, nothing substantial, which meant I didn't always have the chance to get properly 'stuck in'.
Everyone at the firm is friendly, from the door staff to the partners.
Always given full support on all tasks, and people were always on hand to help. Open door policy meant partners were more than happy to help out when possible.
Scheme gave a great insight into working life in a firm. As I had already learned a lot of the legal skills though, I probably overall didn't gain too many new ones.
The Company
Regular email updates and organised evenings made the scheme feel tailored.
Nights out were fun and we were always kept busy.
Because trainees and associates have work to do, vac schemers aren't a priority to teach. Invitations to practice group presentation were the best bit, and perhaps could be circulated more widely to encourage vac schemers to join.
I feel I have a good grasp of life here, including the difficult bits. CMS were open about life here.
Same as above- I feel I have a good grasp of the culture.
Good to get an idea of what life as a City solicitor is like.
Everything Else
Paid both weeks.
At drinks there were dinners but apart from the people you meet at the firm there was no formal networking.
Two was a good amount of social events and both were very good- cocktail making was hilarious and the meal was lovely (although placed badly because of the bank holiday, meaning we couldn't realy relax before the partner interviews the next day)
Trainees and associates were more than happy to talk.
If you want to work here, or in a large city firm, this scheme gives a great insight.
