About You
On the whole I really enjoyed it, with a mixture of work shadowing across a range of desks and my own work to complete. Everyone I met was really friendly and helpful which made the experience much more enjoyable. The only thing that would have made it more enjoyable would have been more organised projects for me to work on so that I felt like I was contributing something worthwhile during my time there.
Everyone was really helpful in explaining things to me and treated me as if I already worked at the firm, the only downside was that the work I was given to do wasn't always useful work, it sometimes felt like something I was given to fill the time.
HR were really helpful answering any questions that I had as were my line manager, buddy and the other people I worked with. I knew that if I had any questions there would definitely be someone to help me out.
I developed useful people skills, such as communication, which will be useful in later life and learnt more about using Excel however as I was only there for a short time and spent a lot of time work shadowing I didn't learn many skills that will help my degree.
The Company
The first day included a range of introductory presentations which were useful, and we were able to participate in various networking events and an interview skills workshop. Whilst in my business area it was generally quite structured although at times it would have been good if I had other things to do, such as projects to work on or information to read.
It's an intense environment to work in but everyone was really lovely and the general atmosphere at the bank was generally a good working environment
There were 37 people on the programme and a lot of staff were involved in helping out. As we were only there for a week they couldn't do too much but what they did do was good.
As we spent a lot of time work shadowing I saw what it is really like to work at Citi and could ask questions etc.
Various people I spoke to all mentioned the company culture but there wasn't much specific information etc about their culture
I still don't know whether I want to work in investment banking but if I do I would definitely like to work at Citi
Everything Else
All accommodation and transport was paid for and the majority of our food so I was pleased
There were a few networking events plus we were able to speak to various employees during the week so I was able to speak to a lot of people
I didn't enjoy the speed networking as the time wasn't long enough to talk to someone you were interested in but too long to spend if it was a department you weren't interested in. At other events it was hard to tell who worked at the bank who was on the Insight programme so I didn't find it particularly useful
I didn't hear anything but I didn't ask
Definitely if you think it's something you might be interested in pursuing!
