The Role
I really enjoyed the job, mainly due to the fact that it had so many other undergraduates working alongside each other. I just didn't enjoy the location of the placement.
Whilst working in my department, HR, they always try and involve you in everything and they're always willing to lend you support. Elsewhere in the company, they are always willing to help you as well.
I didn't have a line manager for the first few months of my placement so that was a struggle but once a line manager was put in place, the support and guidance was much better and I felt like I was given the guidance that I needed.
My job is very ad hoc and also very busy at specific times of the year so although some days I wasn't that busy, when I was helping out with benchmarking, I was very busy and was coming in early and staying late but that is all part of the job and experience in my opinion.
I wouldn't exactly say "running the show!" but you do get given a lot of responsibility. For example, I have helped out with recruiting some of the undergraduates for next year as well as having to run a redundancy programme for the site that I am situated at.
I think it more so will help me beyond university but it has enabled me to become more organised and ensure that I prioritise my time. All the skills that I have acquired will help me beyond university and hopefully in my future career.
The Company
There was a good balance between everyone working hard and the odd joke going around the office and bit of banter.
It was very well set up although some things could have been organised slightly better.
The company do give you training in presentation skills, excel skills, safe driver training and also things that will help you in your specific role. For example, I also had interview training so that will be very beneficial when going for graduate jobs.
