About You
I think it was a good, informative insight into the consulting and actuary industries that successfully conveyed a lot of knowledge
There was limited responsibility during an insight, however they tried to prepare us in general application skills to assist applying to their firm through a summer fast-track next year.
They provided a lot of guidance and support during the course of the day through bringing actual consultants and actuaries down to help us with case studies and questions.
It informed me of the importance of computing skills, highlighting the need to learn some programming to increase my employability further.
The Company
The day was set out well and followed a timetable closely with all speakers arriving promptly, or even early to help out.
I enjoyed being there and meeting the employees, as well as the other delegates.
Investment could only be very limited on a singular day insight, however after providing us with a lot of advice generally they offered all delegates a fast-tracked application for their summer internship next year.
Yes, coming from someone who had very limited knowledge of a consultant's job and no knowledge of what an actuary actually did, Towers Watson very much helped me understand what it is they do there.
Speaking to their employees informally at lunch was helpful in finding out in a less structured, more conversational format how they found working there and about their culture.
It gave me a thorough insight in one day and has helped in shaping my application choices for summer internships next year as I understand the job role more.
Everything Else
Yes there were, at lunch time and during the case study activities you were free to engage in conversation with employees as you wished.
Perhaps more employees could have been made available for networking, however there were still an acceptable amount around.
We were told about the different networks that run in the business and who and how their employees can get engaged in them.
I would always recommend any insight to a friend, especially one such as this where you really find out a lot about the culture of the firm as well as about the jobs themselves all in one day.
