About You
Great two weeks. At the end of the scheme, it felt like I've already been with the firm for much longer (in a good way).
I was given interesting work to do, and all my work providers were generous with feedback.
We were each assigned a supervisor (a partner or an associate) and a trainee buddy for each department we were in. Also, the Graduate Recruitment team was always available if we have any questions.
I gained an understanding of the type of work commercial law firms do, and of the tasks common for trainees in the departments I spent time in.
The Company
We were given a timetable well in advance, and the scheme was a good mix of time spent in training sessions, in the departments, in exercises, and in networking events.
We hear about a firm's open door policy all the time, and with Baker & McKenzie, this is certainly practised.
The first day was jam-packed with training sessions. I also got to attend a training session for current trainees, which shows the firm's commitment to ongoing development.
The vacation scheme was a good way to experience the firm, not only through getting involved with real work, but also through getting to know the people in the office.
The types of work I got involved in confirmed my interest in commercial law.
Everything Else
There were plenty of opportunities for networking with trainees, associates, and partners from all the departments.
They were very well organised.
We were presented with what's on offer, and I was able to take part in one of the firm's pro bono projects.
