About You
The week long scheme I participated in was very enjoyable, with a chance to get involved in some real work and to see exactly how the department and the firm in general operated.
Although I knew my limited knowledge meant I could do little of significant importance in important deals, what I did do was valued by team members and was used in more complex issues.
We had numerous talks and taster sessions about the different departments of the firm and about being a lawyer, which meant I felt comfortable that I knew as much as the firm as I needed to.
The skills I learnt were ones used on a regular basis by lawyers, and so if I pursue any form of legal career this will definitely come in handy.
The Company
There were a few moments where there was no work for me to partake in but during this time I worked on and researched my taster project, and with lots of talks and sessions the insight was structured to a high level.
At a top law firm you expect that individuals will be stressed but I never found this, everyone was warm and welcoming and seemed to genuinely enjoy having me around.
Only a week so wasn't really a lot of time to cover personal training but I felt I learnt a lot from what was covered.
Everything covered - they did different sessions on each department within the firm which meant that the departments we weren't sitting in we got good knowledge of their operation.
Very much so.
It showed me the realities of working in such a demanding field, and helped me decide whether such a role was right for me.
Everything Else
I was given £300 for the week.
We had a drinks reception, a lunch and a dinner, which - in one week, was enough to get an insight.
Very enjoyable - a nice mix of trainees and partners so you got a real feel for different views and experiences of the company
Many opportunities for pro bono work, and lot of social teams etc
Definitely, one of my friend is doing their Summer work experience scheme and I have already told her how beneficial it was.
