About You
My first true experience of the inner workings of a City law firm, I enjoyed every task and talk we were given.
The trainees and partners were positively enlightening and answered all of our questions patiently, kindly and informatively. I felt very welcome.
We took part in two pertinent workshops and were given very useful advice on the admissions process and how to complete a good application. I came away feeling that I'd really improved my candidature and really benefited from all activities.
This was my first participation in a negotiation skills workshop which was an invaluable insight into the demands of the assessment days. I learned key legal vocab that I will take forward and develop but also feel that I now understand the rigour and dedication needed to make meaningful applications.
The Company
Very well structured, the team stuck to the proposed schedule well and there was never a wasted moment.
Great! All candidates were very friendly and the trainees were very kind. A very warm and welcoming atmosphere.
They gave us useful tips on what they are looking for in candidates to render the applications process a little less daunting for us.
Trainees were frank and open regarding the work load and demands on personal lives of a career in commercial law, so it was useful to get real perspective on it rather than go on pure hearsay. Speaking to partners and associates with various backgrounds/levels of experience was enlightening.
Baker & McKenzie was very clear and concise regarding the firm's ethos and standing in the legal world and I feel that the Open Day offered a true glimpse of daily working life in the firm. I did not get the feeling the anything was for show, they were very humble and genuine in their approach.
I am now sure that I want to pursue a career in commercial law.
Everything Else
Prompt reimbursement of expenses up to £100.00
We met lots of trainees and a few associates, although I would have liked to meet a few more partners.
Lots of time to chat: an ample lunch and coffee break.
Pro bono was emphasised a lot, and on the tour of the office we also learned about subsidised gym memberships and friday night drinks, things that really matter to young candidates.
I'd go back in an instant!
