The Role
The jobs I worked on were varied - some where more laborious, yet helped collegues prioritise client work, and others such as the engagement shadowing at client sites were very enjoyable. The scheme includes a strong social element, and the induction week and intern event are great.
Whatever the work, I was made very aware of the contribution I was providing. The team were very supportive and made sure I was given valued work to do. The work I performed had a direct effect on the client interaction.
Both local management and the scheme coordinators constantly monitor the work and your experience - attempting where possible to offer you the opportunities you are most interested in, and to you provide the desired outcome of your time here.
Sometimes work could arrive inconsistently, however I was never overloaded, and forward planning and consultation with people providing the tasks reduced this risk.
You are very much given responsibility over your own working schedule - and in my case the office and times that I would work (i spent time between glasgow and edinburgh due the split team location)
Very useful to see the application of certain things I had learnt at uni - for example seeing how sarbanes-oxley controls are performed inside banks (observed on an internal audit shadow day - at a large banking group client). Wider skills include people - networking and organisation
The Company
Very sociable office (apart from when most of team where at client sites), lots of out of work social events to be onvolved in aswell.
The scheme gives the impression that it is well established - everything was well organised from induction through to the end of the placement.
A notable and key priority was to gain personal experiences and skills in line with my own agenda - this is very much something both local management and scheme coordinators focus on.
Flexi Time
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
Would be a very promising career for a highly reputable organisation.
The Culture
A good social network is established and encouraged from the outset on the induction week. Activities included meals out, laser quest tobogganing - and everyone seemed to bond well on our Corporate Social Responsibility Day.
Reasonable - it was edinburgh (just before festival time got started) - but if your a student its not too bad (discounts).
As you'd expect for edinburgh - and glasgow is only 50 mins by train. Unfortunately the last train back from glasgow is at about 11.30..... buses run later but take much longer!
Mainly social but also various company schemes - for example I am interested in the EY charity bike across mexico!
