About You
The sessions provided a good insight into each area of the business, allowing us to meet like minded individuals and discuss the firm and its work with employees. Every Deloitte employee I encountered was happy to answer any questions I had.
The smaller case study group sessions with direct feedback made me feel valued however some of the broader talks delivered to the entire group could be disengaging.
Guidance was not given directly with the emphasis being on deciding whether Deloitte was the right firm for the individual however the ability to ask questions and discuss with employees and recruiters about the firm gave good support to help me make my decision.
The use of case studies, which required analytical thinking and the ability to pitch ideas at varying levels, has developed skills that I feel are important to many aspects of life. The information delivered regarding the company, its structure and it work have formed a valuable part of my career decision-making.
The Company
The two days were packed with events that I found valuable and enjoyable. The only change I would suggest to the event would be a reduction in the amount of time that the "networking skills" talk took on the first day. The logistics of the event and the hospitality offered were more than sufficient and allowed for the smooth running of the event.
The atmosphere was informal but professional with group discussions actively encouraged. The ability to talk one-to-one with employees during the day and at the evening meal was helped by the less formal atmosphere.
The event was not aimed at the training and development of the cohort however we were constantly challenged whilst being advised throughout our tasks.
The work of each departments was described briefly before a more in depth case study was given that allowed us to experience an overview of the work each department does. This was enhanced further by the ability to talk to employees in each department and enquire about their careers as well as their experiences within Deloitte and how they compared to other firms they had worked for.
The event was hosted in a separate conference room and did not include any type of office tour as was suggested. Talking to employees allowed me to gain their subjective views on the culture however I feel spending some time in the office would have given me a better insight into the firm's working culture.
The information provided gave a good insight into the firm with employees available to answer anything that the presentations did not cover. The new real estate department, however, was not including in any of the presentations which I would have liked to find out more about although this was made clear during on-campus recruitment events.
Everything Else
All travel expenses were reimbursed to a maximum of £50.
Employees were available throughout the two days from partners in the firm to recent graduates and experienced hires. They were also present at the evening meal and were more than happy to discuss any element of their work.
The entire event provided opportunities for socialising and networking with other undergraduates as well as employees.
Activities outside of work were mentioned briefly by a couple of employees however few details were provided.
I would recommend the event to anyone in my situation with even a passing interest in any of Deloitte's operational areas.
