About You
I really enjoyed the whole week - everyone at the firm was extremely welcoming and ready to answer my questions. I also felt I gained what I wanted out of the Work Experience programme - to appreciate how the firm differentiates itself from other City law firms.
I had the opportunity to assist the associate I was sitting with, as well as complete some tasks for other members of the group I was sitting in. They all also took the time to give me feedback on what I had done, which was very useful.
The programme was very structured, with lots of opportunities to talk to the Graduate Recruitment team and lawyers from trainee to partner level.
Both the skills and information I received will definitely help me when making training contract applications in the future and I have gained valuable experience within a law firm, which has helped me to clarify why exactly I want to practise commercial City law.
The Company
The programme was extremely well structured from the start, with each of us receiving our individual programmes at the start of the week.
Everyone at the firm was helpful and keen to share about their legal experiences so far and the rest of the Work Experience participants were very friendly as well.
The Work Experience programme was tailored towards each participant getting what they wanted out of it and the session on "What it takes to be a lawyer" at the end of the week drew everything together nicely.
Through providing us with multiple opportunities to talk to lawyers at the firm, we could appreciate what it would be like to work there.
The talk by the Senior Partner was extremely useful in setting out the firm's defining features, as was the general impression I received from all the employees I met of what it is like to work there.
The programme definitely clarified why I want to work in commercial law since I was able to actually get involved and hear about what the lawyers were currently working on.
Everything Else
The payment more than covered my expenses for the week.
There was a drinks reception at the start of the week and a dinner with lawyers at the firm of various levels, which gave us the opportunity to talk to them in an informal atmosphere.
During the department overview sessions, the lawyers talked about what they get involved with - there is opportunity to pursue whatever you would like to do.
The programme was very beneficial and you really do have the opportunity to ask questions and find out about the firm, whilst gaining experience of doing smaller pieces of legal work, such as those a trainee might do.
