About You
Provided a great overview of the different sectors within Citi thus it was particularly useful for those who are still uncertain on which sector they wish to apply for (or for those who simply do not know the different sectors within Citi/banking). Staff were helpful and friendly at all times so we were all made to feel very welcome and supported throughout our time at Citi.
All staff took a great interest in us all and showed genuine interest in our backgrounds, thoughts and ambitions. Staff within Citi took time out of their day to come and talk to us and answer any questions we may have. The days were busy and we were never left waiting around or sitting aimlessly which showed that Citi were keen to ensure we had a productive and enjoyable few days.
Guidance and support was available at all times to us on the insight program however it often felt more geared towards those reading an economics or finance at university as we were asked before and regularly during the program which areas of banking we were interested in.
As the insight program was only 3 days in length, it was not long enough to develop any significant new skills however it did reinforce the importance of teamwork and planning with speed and efficiency. The information received was extremely useful as it provided a good overview of all the sectors within Citi will help guide my later course of action when I apply for further work in banking.
The Company
The insight began with a friendly introduction to ease us into the program. Clear presentations providing overviews of the different sectors were given before work shadowing took place. The networking event on the second day was ideal as it provided opportunities for informal conversation with Citi staff (outside the workplace) and also enabled some to secure extra work shadowing for the final day. The group presentations and interviews on the final day were an engaging and logical end to the program.
All were enthusiastic and ambitious. Staff were welcoming and supportive at all times. We were kept busy at all times (allowing for appropriate breaks of course) and it was very enjoyable
The company did not invest hugely in individuals but that is to be expected on a 3 day insight program.
It was my first insight into banking with Citi thus all that I saw and heard was new to me (as it was for many others there). The program enabled me to have my first taste of the banking lifestyle and to hear more from staff regarding their day to day jobs.
The networking event on the second day was particularly valuable as it was an evening of networking and casual socialising combined, allowing for informal conversation with Citi staff wherein one could find out more about the culture of the company and Citi life outside of work.
Further experience in the different sectors would be needed to confirm where my interests lie however it certainly narrowed down the paths I am considering.
Everything Else
Expenses were only reimbursed for those who spent over £20 on travel
Considering the insight was only 3 days long, 1 networking event was sufficient. It allowed us to meet Citi staff from different divisions in a relaxed environment.
The atmosphere was fun and relaxed so conversation flowed freely. While we were encouraged to talk to Citi staff (by assigning Citi staff to each bowling team), it was not forced thus conversation felt more natural. Perhaps more Citi staff would have been ideal though to allow more people to take part in conversations with staff.
We heard about some of the extra curricular activities available but only briefly. Perhaps this could be further developed on in future.
