The Role
The team were very supportive, the floor i work on is also a social floor which makes the working day more enjoyable
The workload did vary. towards the end of the month there wasnt a great deal to do. However at other periods there was constantlty work to do. However members of the team did ensure we wasnt overloaded with work, and at teh same time tried to ensure we wasnt bored and doing nothing
I feel we was given the as much responsiblity as we could possibly be given on an internship. We have been given member prints to calculate transfer values and been allowed to get on with it. It is left up to us to ask for help when stuck, but as soon as you are stuck everyone is willing to help. I feel the responsiblity is there but there is also support there when needed.
The skills learnt at Mercer will help with my degree and the rest of my life. The work we undertook required you to look at the samll details. This is something that will help with my degree. More than anything it has given us the experience of working in a large team with people of all levels.
The Company
The floor i was on there was a very relaxed atmosphere. This helped people to work effectiely. People were comfortable with each other and the floor appears very social. This allows people to interact more and become comfortable with each other and more importantly comfortable asking for help.
The induction to the internship was very well organised. When we arrived our buddies were here to meet us and showed us around. We were sat very close to our buddies which made it easier. Even when problems with the technology arose teh secretary had it sorted within hours. The internship was very well organised in my opinion.
Subsidised Canteen
I feel that future emplyment with Mercer would be very desirable. The company is very supportive. It has a good attitude and approach towards study for the actuarial exams. I feel teh company as a whole has a lot of opportunities to offer within the various departments.
The Culture
There was a good social scene amongst the interns. All the interns got on really well. There were not many socials arrnaged by the company, however those that were arranged were enjoyable, and in a way helped with team building.
The cost of living wasnt a problem for me as i commuted from home. However with the cost of socialising it was obviously more then we are used to as i worked in central London, however we found some places that were fairly good value. The costs of socialising wasnt as high as i thought it would be
There were some socials arranged by people within the company. These socials were very good fun to attend. They were very laid back and everyone goton really well. However there were not too many of these. The interns themselves did arrange a few socials with the other interns from time to time.
