The Role
My role is split in two so no one day is the same.
Everyone at HP, young or old are willing to help and make time for you. You are encouraged to ask questions and no question is a silly one.
All managers are fully supportive especially in terms of my university work. I am given 3 study days where I can return to uni and have meetings with my placement tutor. Both my managers give me guidance and support, I have monthly meetings with each manager, where they ask if there is anything else they can do to help further my experience. This often results in setting new challenges and balancing my workload.
I think it is completely down to me how I manage my time. My managers are very concious not to overwork me but also give me enough challenging task to make a difference. I have a very good relationship with them and I can speak openly about my workload whether it is too much or too little.
I would like to think I was running the show. I have been given a lot of responsibility. For example I was given the responsibility to be a country champion for a new EMEA tool which meant I had to present to other teams and promote the use of it. I am privelleged enough to be part of the talent management leadership team and work on content for senior management meetings.
A lot of the skills I have learnt on my placement were ones I had not experienced in my degree course. However, whether they were people skills, communication, excel etc I am sure I will use all of them in any career I pursue in the future. It has definitely made me understand my course from a business perspective.
