The Role
IBM is a great placement and offers many enjoyable opportunities on top of your job role.
Because you are given a definite role within a specific team, you get to build up strong working relationships with colleagues and senior employees who respect and value your contribution to the team.
You are given both a task manager and a HR manager. My task manager provided excellent day to day role support and we often worked together to complete work. HR managers are there to specifically support your personal development and this is something that I really valued in my placement.
Some weeks I would to be really busy, others would be far quieter. This reflected the nature of my role. Personally, I find you learn the most when your are the busiest at work. For this reason I would have liked to be a bit busier some weeks, although this does give you a opportunity to get involved in other work outside your day to day role.
At IBM you are given a real role with real responsibility. For example, in my finance role I was working closely with the client and was responsible for large sums of money.
I have no doubt that my development this year will put me in a fantastic position in the future. Doing a placement at IBM really does give you a head start when it comes to graduate jobs.
The Company
There was a really good atmosphere on the client site I worked in. There were always events and things gong on to keep you on your toes!
The scheme is very well organised. This reflects the fact it is both a large and well established scheme.
Many training days and most importantly endless amount of on the job training!!
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
IBM offers a fantastic graduate scheme and there are opportunities to be fast tracked through this process
The Culture
There's a excellent social schene between the placement students and graduates at IBM, especially in the larger offices. As I was based on a client site this was less applicable for me.
Nottingham is much cheaper than London, but still has lots to do, so it is a good mix.
The nightlife was pretty good in Nottingham, although work commitments mean you can only really go out on the weekends.
Opportunities such as sports team and clubs out of work. I.e. I am part of the IBM rugby 7's team.
