The Role
Very enjoyable for a number of reasons - colleague, experience, job tasks.
IBM is a very large organisation so at times may seem like you have a very small part in the business, however teams are usually very close and tight-knit which makes it better
IBM have a fantastic mentoring scheme set up so that you are never on your own - there is always people you can speak to for different help.
In my role, work is often unplanned - there is no routine and each day there are different tasks to be faced. Because of this, there sometimes are days where its a lot quieter, however these days are perfect opportunities to do other research in different areas of IBM.
In particular in my team, I had a lot of responsibility, often running training sessions and organising meetings with employees.
I have had to learn how to time manage, communicate and organise much more effectively in this placement which are vital skills that will help in years to come.
The Company
You can often visit other IBM offices to work in different locations - some are very quiet with not many places for lunch etc, but these ones tend to have the more friendly students so there is always a great atmosphere!
IBM have put a lot of work into developing their placement scheme, and because of this there is great support when working as well as very prompt inductions when you first begin.
IBM give a lot of opportunities to help in personal training. There are hundreds of free, online training sessions you can sign up to do - all which goes on your placement record. They also set up many face-to-face sessions on CVs, interviews, graduate jobs and well as tutorials on many IT programmes.

There are many Graduate jobs - however these are very competitive to get into. Opportunities are there, its just if you are lucky enough to get one.
The Culture
In my office, there are 35 placement students, with a lot of us living nearby/in house shares with each other.
Cost of living is not as high as central London, however still quite expensive for rent etc. In central London however, everything is priced as you'd expect.
Nightlife is pretty non existent in the office I'm based at - however in central london office, the nightlife is much much better.
It depends on what team you are in and how well your team got along. My team had a number of lunches, dinners and drinks after work during the year.
