The Role
I have learnt a lot on my placement and have been enabled to undertake a variety of tasks.
There was a great team spirit within the majority of the team.
In most cases I had all the support I needed in able to perform my role.
At times during the year I was really stretched working many more hours than I expected.
My role was a role of great responsibility. This is one of the reasons I have enjoyed my placement so much. My role was valued and although this responsibility can be difficult to manage in the early stages it allows you to grow through being outside your comfort zone.
There were many skills both direct and transferable I will take with me in my life going forward. One such example is dealing effectively with people around you.
The Company
This varied through the year.
There were some aspects of the placement that really lacked attention such as help with relocation at the beginning and information on the roles that we were going in to. However, some aspects such as the quarterly meetings of all placement students brought us all together, were great and very informative.
There were quite a few learning and insights days set up which were very useful as well as opt in learning schemes delivered online. However, it would have been good to get some face to face specific training and possible certifications such as in project management.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
There has been some talk about returning to the company based on performance. However, it does not seem that there is a wholly encompassing developed pathway to transition from this particular placement scheme to the scheme of your choice.
The Culture
This has also varied throughout the year, however there have been social events organised that I have thoroughly enjoyed.
The benefit of being placed in the north meant that living and socialising was relatively cheap.
The night life was relatively good.
Due to my base location the majority of the opportunities to get involved in other activities was limited.
