    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Internship was undertaken during the summer holidays- during the quietest period at KPMG. Therefore there was very little work for me to do and for most of the time I was left quite bored. I made very good friends and when I was out on a client it was enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Definitely felt like part of the team- taken for lots of team lunches and was included in everything!

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Very little support from managers and supervisors as they were hardly in the office. But fully supported by other individuals in the team who were always happy to answer questions.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Totally depended on a day. Was very busy some days, not so busy on others.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Given a fair bit of responsibility. For eg making a presentation and video. Was left on my own once a task was given to me.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although it was extremely busy I do feel like I have gained skills for life. Really helping me in third year as it has eased the pressure of finding a grad job! Gained a good insight into life at KPMG and Audit, learnt to be more independent and made friends for life.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was ok but could have been more optimistic..People always bring sweets and treats into the office which was good but at times people were very pessimistic which brought the atmosphere down. I worked in two teams who were very different - one was very outgoing the other very dull so I think it just depends.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • First two days were very well organised- after that not so good. On the first day I had no supervisor or mentor like advised. And there was really no work or clients organised for me.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested very highly- got to shadow the partner, first two days of training were very good, online courses were also a good resource.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have a guaranteed job so that's a definite perk! Although partner interview was very badly organised so make sure you prepare for it at any time!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It was good- We used to go for team lunches every Friday! During the first two days we had a training course- this was probably the best two days where we went bowling and for dinner. Also KPMG didn't organise any events after that for the interns but we organised them independently!

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Birmingham not so expensive. Travel there and back was around 12£a day so that was the only down side but the wage compensated. Travel to clients was paid as was lunches which was very good

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • it was very good. Plenty of pubs, clubs and restaurants to choose from in Birmingham.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • My team had already done there CSR before I started my internships but I know other interns who went to CSR days as well as to the Harry Potter studio etc

    4/5
