The Role
Great introduction to the corporate environment - lots of opportunities and different projects to get involved with.
Felt very valued by my team, and was given real responsibility early on.
Was given guidance, but often it is up to you to solve problems / remove roadblocks and you will often have to figure out things for yourself and take the initiative.
Work was sometimes unpredictable - sometimes I could be extremely busy. During quieter times there were plenty of other activities / projects to get involved in.
I was given real responsibility - the business team relied on my for timely roadmap reporting.
The soft skills - for instance how to effectively communicate, and work well with a varied team - will be very useful in my future career. Being exposed to a tech giant such as IBM, and gaining insight into how the company operates has been invaluable.
The Company
Very good atmosphere with the other interns. Lively and friendly.
It was well structured - I had two managers, one (direct line manager) responsible for my day-to-day tasks, and a personal development manager, who would ensure I was getting the most out of my placement. This was a very good setup as it ensured there was always someone to discuss my careers prospects and progress with.
There were many opportunities to get involved with a wide range of projects - I was free to choose which skills I would like to develop in addition to my official job role.
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a graduate job with IBM. Looking forward to join this year.
The Culture
Great social scene. Always something going on!
Reasonably expensive; but manageable.
Based on the outskirts of London, you have a few local options such as Staines but for a big night out you would need to head into Central London.
Loads of events / holidays / activities arranged by the interns!
