About You
The insight programme was very good in showing students the day-to-day life of a lawyer, as well as the life of a lawyer in Slaughter and May. The activities were useful and informative.
I felt valued as a vacation scheme student - everyone, from trainees to partners, took time to chat with me and to share their own experiences at Slaughter and May. I felt as though I would fit in with a firm where everyone knew each other and enjoyed each other's company.
I received much guidance from my host associate - this was particularly useful as I was able to learn about her experiences and to ask her advice on my future career. She was also able to show me a little insight into what she did and how she developed within the firm.
I developed knowledge of the various legal sectors as well as an awareness of what practical skills I need as a lawyer. Through the talks offered, I gained a better understanding of the work done at Slaughter and May.
The Company
The course was extremely well structured - the thought and care put into making each student feel taken care of was impressive. Students were never bored and were always learning something useful.
The general atmosphere was congenial - everyone was very kind and warm, which was unexpected from a firm with a reputation for being rather stiff. I enjoyed working with the firm and getting to know the interesting personalities there.
Slaughter and May took the time to provide us with the resources we needed to learn more about the firm and commercial law in general.
Because the Easter Vacation Scheme was only one week long it was difficult to fully understand how actually working with Slaughter and May would be. However the system of having 'host' associates provided us with insight as to what a full time role would look like.
The vacation scheme was incredibly enlightening as we understood more of the company's distinctive culture. It was inspiring to see how the people took the company's motto (Great Minds Think Differently) seriously.
This vacation scheme was extremely valuable as it certainly convinced me that Slaughter and May as a firm was enviably distinctive to other firms in the same tier. Additionally commercial law was made to be interesting and exciting, and I look forward to entering this field upon graduation.
Everything Else
Yes, there were evening events as well as lunch programmes so that we could meet other employees and hear their experiences.
