The Role
Working at Cummins has allowed me to work on a wide range of projects. These have enabled me to work with a wide variety of departments within the company and other external suppliers. The level of responsibility was challenging at times but helped to develop my confidence as an engineer.
I was included as a part of the team from day 1. I found that my colleagues at Cummins was incredibly supportive of questions and queries.
I had a mentor as well as my manager during my time at Cummins. This allowed me to ask my mentor the more general questions relating to projects. For any larger queries or other issues I had weekly meetings arranged with my manager to talk through these- I was still able to approach my manager at any other time I needed to as well.
During my time at Cummins I have had a large workload. This has helped me to prioritise work accordingly and work to time schedules. I was never bored and never found myself with no work.
I was given a huge amount of responsibility with some of my projects, I was surprised by the level of work I was given within the company. Support was always available if I needed it.
I found that I did not directly use my Engineering degree apart from the basic principles. The degree helped me to get through training here that I took on for specific projects. Although I didn't use much of the technical side of my degree I have picked up a lot of skills that will be incredibly valuable in my engineering career- skills that you wont necessarily learn at university.
The Company
Professional environment so I wouldn't rate this as 'fun never stopped'. The department were friendly and talkative- everyone always has a chat with each other, but we all had a lot of work to do as well.
Met most of the tasks and competencies that I needed to for my IMechE as my manager supplied me with a wide range of tasks to work on.
I was given the same opportunities as all other permanent employees. There were also specific elements of training that only I completed- these were project specific.

Cummins is ab appealing company to work for. There is a good atmosphere, the hours are flexible and there are plenty of opportunities to develop and continue learning after you graduate. IMechE scheme is in place for those who want to become a chartered engineer.
The Culture
Lots of other students to socialize with, also attended a few events outside of work that involved many of the other colleagues.
As cheap or expensive as you want to make it really. The gym membership was cheap for students. Plenty of other things to get involved with e.g football clubs and cricket all through Cummins so fairly cheap.
Daventry is a small place so don't expect to be out clubbing, I enjoyed nights out in the town here with other students in the local pubs just as much but I think thats a personal preference. Daventry is in a good location to get to the larger cities as well.
Various different clubs and events are available at Cummins, football, cricket, netball, walking etc..easiest way to find it is ask when you get here.
