The Role
The role was varied, dynamic, interesting and very sociable - an all round great experience.
Was considered part of the team and given as much responsibility as I showed I could handle. My team were friendly and welcoming and always happy to answer questions.
My manager gave me regular feedback and Personal Development sessions, where we'd review my progress and goals and I was offered advice on my development.
Because it was an events role, there were busy and quiet periods in each month, however if we were overly busy I'd be able to recoup the hours, and when it was 'quiet' in events terms I always had long-term projects that I could work on.
I was given more responsibility after the first couple of months, and noticed a clear progression in the level of autonomy I was given as I settled into my role. By the end of the year I was able to run my own event from design stage.
I didn't find the placement particularly relevant to my degree as the subjects were very different, however I think that the key skills learnt during the year (organisation, time management, motivation) will be useful for my studies.
The Company
The office was generally quiet, but there was a great community feel and colleagues were very sociable - helped by the fact that there were over 60 students on site.
My team was well prepared for my arrival and had plenty of projects for me throughout the year.
There were plenty of online training and development sessions available to placement students, however few were relevant to my function. It was interesting to learn more about the machinery, six sigma workstyles etc, but the training wasn't directly beneficial to my role.

The Culture
Cheaper than London City centre but still in easy reach on London for nights out. Rent was reasonable (avg. £350/month), not many clubs nearby that were worth a visit but if you went into London you could find a great night out for not too much.
Lots of pubs and a few bars, but no real clubs nearby - we found a good one a few towns over that offered a free shuttlebus from our town to the club and back, but mainly went into central London for big nights out.
Football and charity projects, but otherwise not really.
