The Role
I really enjoyed the work at the office where the people are extremely helpful and appreciative of your work. It also has a nice atmosphere, where your associates make sure you get settled in nicely and are always there for help if you have any questions. Although I did enjoy our group project work, I did feel that it was not really relevant to the work that we were doing. We had to help make a difference to a school by organising "charitable events". However found it extremely hard to get in touch with people at the school and felt that they almost didn't really want our help.
At work all of the associates I was working with were extremely helpful, explaining all of the work slow enough so I could understand what I was doing, and why it was relevant. I also felt that if I didn't understand at first, then I could just go upto them and ask for some more help without any problems.
You are given a manager that oversees what you are doing and have a meeting with at the beginning, 1/2 way through to see how your getting on and he gives you feedback during one last meeting on your last day. There is however a "buddy" system which works really well that i would rate 10/10. You are assigned to a graduate who has been working with the company for just under a year, and they help and guide you through everything. If you have any problems at all they can always help, which is great!
There was only about 2 times during the whole 9 weeks where I was out of work, and that was for about 15mins each at the most! My buddy ensured that I had enough work to keep me busy and people always come and ask if you are free so that they can explain some work that you could do for them.
Not really given much responsibility, as we mainly had to perform calculations and use models.
I study an Actuarial degree, so I can now see how all of the things that I'm learning are useful in a real work environment and hopefully give me a bit of extra motivation to work even harder!
The Company
The atmosphere where I was working was quite relaxed as everyone seemed to be friendly and helpful. There was also regular team or company socials at least every few weeks.
When I first applied I got a voicemail message letting me know that I had to call them up to arrange an interview. I phoned them up and left several messages back, only to be told weeks later that the woman was no longer working there. They did however then give me an interview and offer me an internship which I gratefully accepted.
There was a fair amount of training at the start, and we had 2 induction days but most of the training was learning whilst we were doing the tasks given to us ie working from experience and learning that way.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
If I was offered a job I would have taken it.
The Culture
Although some were extremely quite and didn't really speak that much we did build up a good group and would regularly go out for lunch and go over to each others desks to see what they had been up to.
Epsom is not in London, so everything was relatively reasonably prices which was nice when going out or having lunch etc.
We didn't really go out clubbing, but the pubs we did go to seemed nice and there are also some bars around.
I was only there for 9 weeks (which may seem long but it flies by!) so don't know about all of them but there are football teams and they also organised cricket matches against other companies. Some people in the office also play golf so organise matches with each other.
